RatePoint Case Study

Client: RatePoint
Project: RatePoint Toolbar
Services Provided: Toolbar Creation, Browser Product Branding

The Study

RatePoint had a problem. They previously had another developer to make them a toolbar that would allow their users to connect ratings to websites. Unfortunately, their toolbar was stuck using methods that were popular in the Web 0.5 age. And got ratings for sites using iframes, because of this design, RatePoint's bandwidth was getting killed, as the toolbar updated the rating every 0.7th of a second. The old toolbar also had problems injecting the gabLets into the web page the user was on. So, GameSpotting! Networks was called in to put life into their toolbar and provide better functionality, as well as, fix their toolbar.

The Result

We quickly brought their toolbar into Web 2.0 with a complete recoding. Within a week, we added settings and more features to the toolbar, while fixing up and removing code that wasn't needed. Because of our fixes we have made a toolbar that works more efficiently and with less errors. We fixed the previous JavaScript leaks that were caused because of the iframe. RatePoint's Servers are at a lower load then before, with less traffic slams because of the iframe. The RatePoint Toolbar is used by at least 2,000 users. And it was also rated one of the top 25 social networking toolbars for Firefox by Mashable.

It's called the:
"The RatePoint extension is a must have for existing RatePoint users."
